Affiliate Disclosure

The short version
Some of the hotel, tour, activity, flight and transfer links on this site are paid links. If you book through one, we get a commission from the booking company. Your price is the same either way, and it never affects what we recommend.
How this site is funded
Athens Tourism Guide is free to read, carries no subscription and sells nothing. It is funded by affiliate commission, earned through the Travelpayouts affiliate network, which connects the site to booking companies such as Booking.com, Trip.com, Viator and GetYourGuide. Where a guide links to a hotel, a tour or activity, a flight or an airport transfer, that link may be placed through Travelpayouts. If you book after following one, the booking company pays us a commission out of its own margin.
It does not change your price. The commission comes out of what the booking company would otherwise have kept, not out of what you pay.
The same script can also add things of its own to a guide: booking boxes, and small pop-up booking suggestions on some of the places a guide mentions. They are advertising too, and they are paid the same way. When you follow a link, it can also open a booking offer in the tab you were reading, with the guide reopened in a new tab. We do not place any of these by hand; the network decides where they appear.
Separately, some guides carry a short booking box that we add ourselves, labelled “(Ad)”, for a tour, a day trip or a place to stay that the guide already covers. Its link passes through a redirect on this site (an address starting /go/) on its way to Travelpayouts, which is how a booking is credited to this site.
What it does not buy
Nothing on this site is a paid placement. No hotel, tour operator, restaurant or attraction pays to be included, none of them sees an article before it is published, and none of them can buy a position in one. Guides are researched and written first; links are added afterwards, to the places the guide already recommends. Where something is named here, it is because it earned the space.
The site is independently owned and holds no commercial relationship with any Athenian hotel, tour operator, restaurant, museum or public body. It is not a booking agency, and it is not a party to any booking you make: the contract is between you and the company that takes your money.
What this means for your data
When you follow one of these links, Travelpayouts and the booking company you land on set a cookie or a similar identifier so that a booking made afterwards can be credited to this site. It records the booking, not what you read here. We are not given your name, your contact details or your payment details. There is more detail in the privacy policy and the cookie policy.
You can refuse all of this. Travelpayouts sits in the Advertising group in the cookie settings, and until that group is allowed the script does not load at all — no rewriting, no identifier, nothing stored. In the EU, the UK and the other countries listed in the privacy policy it stays off until you say yes; in the United States it stays off until you answer the bar. If you allow it and change your mind, the scripts stop running, and the analytics cookies this site can reach are cleared. The one cookie Travelpayouts keeps on this site, am_user_session, is no longer renewed once its script stops and lapses within half an hour. Its other item of storage, a note of the page’s colours (YeaMoAvnmSamSLml), and anything Travelpayouts or a booking site set on their own domains are cleared in your browser rather than from this page. The links still work, the price is unchanged, and we still earn nothing extra from you either way.
The booking boxes we add ourselves are plain links: they load nothing and store nothing until you click one, and our /go/ redirect sets no cookie. Following one takes you to Travelpayouts and then the booking company, which set their own identifiers as described above.
