Most visitors should leave bags with their hotel and, failing that, at a staffed locker room around Syntagma or Monastiraki, where a big suitcase costs €4-10 for the day. For luggage storage in Athens in the small hours, two staffed options never close: the CARE4BAG desk in the airport arrivals hall (€18 a day for a large case) and Athens Left Luggage near the Acropolis Museum (€10 a locker). Piraeus has one staffed desk inside the port, and the apps fill the gaps with shop counters from €1.49.
This page is for anyone with hours to fill between check-out and a flight, ferry or cruise, and for island-hoppers who want to park a big case for a week. The caveat that matters: headline “from” prices are for the smallest bag or the shortest booking, so price the suitcase you actually have. Details checked 26 September 2026 against CARE4BAG, In Town Check In, the locker operators’ own websites, the apps’ Athens pages, Athens International Airport, the Acropolis Museum and the Ministry of Culture. The rest of the day-to-day is in our practical Athens tips.

What’s changed in 2026?
- App prices are lower than older lists say. The apps’ own Athens pages now start at €1.49 (Stasher), €1.95 (Bounce) and €3.90 (Radical Storage) a day, below the €3-5 some official listings still show.
- A Syntagma desk has moved. LeaveYourLuggage.gr now gives Filellinon 3, beside the square, as its Syntagma address.
- The airport tariff runs out. CARE4BAG marks its price list valid until 31 December 2026, so expect new rates in 2027.
- The Piraeus desk is at Gate E3, not the “Gate 3” some listings give, and it keeps short weekend hours.
How much does left luggage cost in Athens?
Three pricing models run side by side. The airport desk charges per bag, by size and time band; the staffed rooms in the centre charge per bag or per locker by the day; the apps charge per bag per day at rates each shop sets. Here is one big checked suitcase at published rates:
| Where | 6 hours | 24 hours | 7 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| CARE4BAG, airport (large) | €12 | €18 | €48 |
| Syntagma Lockers (large) | €8 | €8 | €56 |
| Locker Point Athens (large locker) | €8 | €8 | €56 |
| Athens Left Luggage (one locker) | €10 | €10 | €70 |
| Nannybag partner (suitcase rate) | €4.90 | €4.90 | €34.30 |
Seven-day figures multiply the daily rate, except at the airport, which has its own sliding scale; Locker Point also advertises long-stay deals. Size bands differ too: CARE4BAG’s “large” runs to 90 x 40 x 40 cm, and Syntagma Lockers adds an extra-large band at €10.
The per-locker model is the one to exploit. Locker Point’s large locker takes two to four cabin bags for €8, so a couple with two carry-ons pays €8 in total. Syntagma Lockers would charge €5 each, and the airport €15 each, because a standard 55 x 40 x 20 cm cabin bag is too big for its small band.
Verdict: for a day in the centre, pay €8 near Syntagma, not €18 at the airport. For a week of islands, the airport’s €48 is the cheapest staffed rate, and the case waits where you fly home from.

Where can you leave luggage in central Athens?
Nearly everything sits in the triangle between Syntagma, Monastiraki and the Acropolis Museum, where most people spend a last day anyway. Ranked for one big case and an afternoon to fill:
1. Syntagma Lockers
€8 for a large case, all day. The nearest staffed storage to the X95 airport bus: 10 Othonos Street, across from Syntagma Square and on your left as you leave the metro. It’s at street level, so no stairs with a 23 kg case. Rates are per item per day by size, from €2 for an extra-small bag through €5, €6 and €8 to €10 for extra large, and because you pay by the day rather than the hour, there’s no clock ticking. Drop-offs or pick-ups outside opening hours can be arranged in advance.
Plan it: 07:00-20:00; €2-10 per item per day; Syntagma metro (Lines 2 and 3), a minute’s walk; best for anyone taking the €5.50 X95 bus to the airport.

2. Locker Point Athens
€4 or €8 per locker for 24 hours. The best value for two or more. Locker Point, at 24 Nikis Street between Syntagma and Plaka, prices by the locker, not the bag: €4 for a small one (handbag, laptop bag or compact cabin case) and €8 for a large one that swallows a 15-35 kg checked suitcase, two XL hiking backpacks or two to four cabin bags. Staff are on site whenever it’s open, you can reopen your locker as often as you like, and oversized items go in a separate room.
Plan it: 07:00-21:00 daily; €4 small, €8 large; Syntagma metro (Lines 2 and 3), a few minutes’ walk; best for couples and families pooling bags.
3. LeaveYourLuggage.gr
From €4 for the day, staffed. A hand-it-over desk with two branches: Filellinon 3, beside Syntagma Square, and Mnisikleous Street at the Plaka end of Monastiraki. There’s CCTV, an employee is present during opening hours, and there’s free wi-fi and a toilet while you repack. One flag: its website wouldn’t load securely when we checked, so we read an April 2026 copy, and the hours come from the City of Athens listing. Ring ahead if your timing is tight.
Plan it: 07:00-21:00 (City of Athens listing); from €4 a day; Syntagma (Lines 2 and 3) or Monastiraki (Lines 1 and 3) metro; best for anyone who prefers a person to a PIN.
4. Stow Your Bags Monastiraki
From €1.49, open until 23:00. Unstaffed smart lockers at Kinetou 6, two minutes from Monastiraki Square, bookable from one hour to 15 days and opened with your phone. Sizes come in carry-on units: small (one bag) from €1.49, standard (two) from €2.49 and maxi (up to four) from €2.99, rising with the time you book, with €1,000 of insurance per bag. A big checked case will probably need the maxi, so measure first. Come back after your booking ends and the locker stays shut until you pay the overrun.
Plan it: 07:00-23:00 every day; Monastiraki metro (Lines 1 and 3), two minutes’ walk; best for a late dinner before a night ferry.
5. Athens Left Luggage
€10 a locker per day, open 24 hours. The answer to a 05:00 flight or a ferry that docks after midnight. It’s underground in the Athens Studios building at 3A Veikou Street, Makrygianni, near the Acropolis Museum, staffed around the clock all year, and open to non-guests. Lockers are 53 cm wide, 86 cm deep and 57 cm high, room for two large backpacks by the operator’s measure, at €10 a day for the first 11 days and €8 a day after that.
Plan it: 24 hours; €10 per locker per day; Akropoli metro (Line 2), a few minutes’ walk; best for night arrivals and departures.
6. The luggage apps
Headline €1.49-3.90 a day; a suitcase €4.90-5.49 at the spots we priced. Bounce, Stasher, Nannybag, Radical Storage and LuggageHero sell space behind the counters of cafés, shops and hotels. Bounce lists 81 Athens spots from €1.95 a day, Stasher 60-plus from €1.49 a bag, Radical Storage 62 from €3.90, and Nannybag 82-plus at €2.50 for a small bag, €4.90 for a suitcase and €6.90 for a bike or surfboard. LuggageHero charges from €1 an hour plus a per-bag fee. Nannybag and Radical Storage each advertise €10,000 of protection.
The catch is hours: each shop keeps its own, and one well-rated Nannybag spot near Monastiraki showed a 10:00 opening when we checked, no use for a 07:00 check-out. We don’t link to the apps because they are booking marketplaces; compare them on the checkout total for your bag, not the headline.
Verdict: good where there are no lockers, around Piraeus or Larissis station. In the centre, the staffed rooms above are simpler for about €3 more.
Is there luggage storage at Athens airport?

Yes, and it never closes. CARE4BAG runs the airport’s baggage storage in the arrivals hall next to Gate 1, in the public area, 24 hours a day. Every item is X-rayed and watched on CCTV, and you pay only when you collect. Small means up to 50 x 30 x 20 cm, medium up to 65 x 50 x 25 cm and large up to 90 x 40 x 40 cm.
| Storage time | Small | Medium | Large |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 6 hours | €8 | €10 | €12 |
| Up to 12 hours | €10 | €12 | €14 |
| 24 hours | €12 | €15 | €18 |
| 48 hours | €15 | €19 | €23 |
| 3 days | €18 | €23 | €28 |
| 7 days | €30 | €39 | €48 |
| 10 days | €39 | €51 | €63 |
| Each extra day after 10 | +€3 | +€4 | +€5 |
Wrapping adds €8 a bag (€10 on its own, 06:00-22:00). Bikes, surfboards and other outsize items cost €20 each a day, space permitting; food and pets are refused, and valuables and fragile items must be declared.
Heading into town after dropping the bags? The airport metro ticket is €9 one way (€4.50 reduced) or €16 return, not the ordinary city fare. The X95 express bus to Syntagma costs €5.50.
Few first-timers think of using the desk as a wardrobe while they island-hop with a small bag:
- Repack in arrivals: move a week’s clothes into a day bag.
- Drop the case at CARE4BAG: €48 for a large one for seven days, paid on collection.
- Ride Line 3 to Piraeus: about an hour from the airport station to the ferries.
- Collect on the way home: pick the case up before check-in, have it wrapped if you like, and fly.
Verdict: right for layovers, night landings and week-long storage. Wrong for a day in the centre, where a big case costs €18 here against €8 near Syntagma, before €16 of return train fare.
Where do you leave bags at Piraeus port?
Inside the port, the one staffed option we could confirm is In Town Check In, in the Agios Dionysios passenger terminal at Gate E3, with a second entrance from Gate E2. It stores small and big bags by the day, wraps them and delivers them to hotels, the airport and the cruise and ferry terminals; AEGEAN passengers can also check in there, from 48 hours until 6 hours before departure. Prices appear only in its online booking, so we can’t quote a standard rate.
Plan around the hours: Monday to Friday 06:00-22:00, but weekends and public holidays 08:00-16:00. A Sunday evening sailing means collecting by 16:00 or using an app spot; Radical Storage lists partners in Piraeus. From Piraeus metro (Line 1 or Line 3), take the exit signed for the port and Gate E6, then the free port bus or a seven-minute walk to E3.

Gates and sailings are covered in our guide to Piraeus port and its ferries. Leaving from Rafina instead? The Rafina port guide covers getting there from the centre and the airport.
What should cruise passengers do with bags on the last day?

Ships clear passengers off in the morning, and most flights home leave hours later. Four realistic choices, best first:
- Send the bags ahead. In Town Check In collects from the cruise terminals and hands bags over at the airport departures terminal, with at least four hours between collection and delivery.
- Book your line’s transfer tour. Many cruise lines sell an Athens tour that ends at the airport with the cases in the coach; check the shore excursion list.
- Go to the airport first. Line 3 takes about an hour from Piraeus; leave the cases at CARE4BAG (a medium one is €10 for up to six hours, €12 for twelve) and ride back into town. That’s two hours of train time, so it only pays with a long gap.
- Use an app spot near the port. The cheapest, if the shop is open both when you arrive and when you return.
Verdict: with seven or more hours between the gangway and your flight, send the bags ahead and see the city; with less, go straight to the airport. We couldn’t confirm a public left-luggage room inside the cruise terminals themselves. Staying on for the islands? Our onward travel guide sorts out ports and ferries from Athens.
Will your hotel keep your bags?
Almost certainly, if it has a reception. Holding guests’ bags before check-in and after check-out is standard in Athens hotels and usually free, and it beats every paid option on effort. Ask when you book, and check what time reception closes if you’ll collect late. Two warnings: the “luggage room” can be an open corner behind the desk, so keep passports, laptops, medicine and cash with you; and short-let apartments with key boxes often have nobody to hand bags to, which is exactly when a locker earns its €8. Once the bags are sorted, our Athens itineraries will fill the hours.
Lockers, staffed desks or an app: which is safest?
They’re secure in different ways. Staffed rooms put a person between your bag and the street, and Athens Left Luggage does so around the clock. Smart lockers such as Stow Your Bags rely on only your phone opening the door, plus €1,000 of insurance per bag. App partners are counters in working businesses, backed by the platform’s guarantee rather than a lock. The airport desk X-rays everything and asks you to declare valuables.
Whichever you use, photograph the bag and its tag, keep documents, cash, medication and chargers on you, and screenshot the booking with the closing time.
Verdict: for anything you’d hate to lose, a staffed room or the airport desk; for a cabin bag and a few hours, a smart locker is fine.
Can you take a suitcase to the Acropolis or the Acropolis Museum?
Not to the Acropolis. Its “baggage-stroller check-in” cloakroom, just north of the main entrance and outside the site, turns away large luggage for security reasons, and only small backpacks and handbags are allowed in. The Acropolis Museum is not a left-luggage office either: it has two ground-floor cloakrooms for backpacks and bulky items, X-rays bags at the door, asks visitors not to bring large bags and accepts no responsibility for valuables left there.

Verdict: drop the case first. Athens Left Luggage on Veikou Street is the closest round-the-clock option to both, and the Monastiraki lockers suit an approach through the Ancient Agora.
What to skip
- The airport desk for a city day. €18 for a big case plus €16 of return metro fare, against €8 at Syntagma.
- Trusting “24/7” on an app’s home page. It can mean customer support or a few late spots, not the shop you booked.
- The Larissis station lockers. The City of Athens visitor site lists them at 06:00-22:00, but we couldn’t confirm them with the rail operator, so don’t build a plan around them.
- A Sunday evening pick-up at Piraeus port. In Town Check In closes at 16:00 at weekends.

Luggage Storage in Athens FAQ
Is there luggage storage at Athens airport?
Yes. CARE4BAG runs it in the arrivals hall next to Gate 1, open 24 hours a day. A day costs €12, €15 or €18 for a small, medium or large bag, six hours starts at €8 and a week at €30. You pay when you collect, and food and pets aren’t accepted.
How much does luggage storage cost in Athens?
For one big suitcase, expect €8-10 a day at the staffed locker rooms in the centre, €18 for 24 hours at the airport and about €5 through an app such as Nannybag. Headline prices from €1.49 are for the smallest bag or the shortest booking, so compare the total for your own bag.
Where can I store luggage near Syntagma Square?
Three options sit within a few minutes of the square. Syntagma Lockers, 10 Othonos Street by the X95 airport bus stop, charges €8 a day for a large case (07:00-20:00). Locker Point, 24 Nikis Street, charges €8 for a large locker (07:00-21:00). LeaveYourLuggage.gr, Filellinon 3, starts at €4.
Is there luggage storage in Monastiraki or Plaka?
Yes. Stow Your Bags runs smart lockers at Kinetou 6, two minutes from Monastiraki Square, from 07:00 to 23:00 every day, starting at €1.49 for the shortest booking. LeaveYourLuggage.gr has a staffed branch on Mnisikleous Street at the Plaka end of Monastiraki, and the apps list shop counters across both areas.
Is there left luggage at Athens train station?
The City of Athens visitor site lists baggage lockers at Larissis station, open 06:00-22:00, but we couldn’t confirm them with the rail operator. Bounce lists storage spots around the station, and the staffed rooms at Syntagma are on the same metro line (Line 2), so treat the station lockers as a bonus rather than the plan.
Can I leave luggage at the Acropolis?
No. The cloakroom by the main entrance, outside the site, does not accept large luggage, and only small backpacks and handbags are allowed in. Leave the case first: Athens Left Luggage on Veikou Street, near the Acropolis Museum, is open 24 hours and charges €10 a locker per day.
Is there luggage storage at Piraeus port?
Yes. In Town Check In, in the Agios Dionysios passenger terminal at Gate E3, stores and wraps bags and can deliver them to the airport or your hotel. It opens 06:00-22:00 on weekdays but only 08:00-16:00 at weekends and on public holidays, and prices are quoted in its online booking.
